Human actions in the environment have generated many negative impacts such as reduced air quality, atmospheric pollution and contamination of rivers and seas. This is because as humanity grows, consumption develops, as well as its effects: global warming and scarcity of natural resources. The area of Environmental Engineering plays an essential role in reversing this scenario, proposing solutions that aim to reduce or control pollution, thus contributing to maintaining life on the planet. In this sense, it is inferred that Environmental Engineering acts directly on the sustainable development of nature, associating the social, technological and economic spheres. Furthermore, this branch also analyzes environmental problems with the intention of designing and building sewage and water systems, for example. The environmental engineer is, therefore, a fundamental professional for the preservation of natural resources. Therefore, it is worth analyzing a little more about this profession as well as the graduation and curriculum of the Environmental Engineering course.

An environmental engineer is a professional who works in the diagnosis, manipulation, treatment and control of environmental problems, both in urban and rural areas. In addition to identifying and analyzing the dimensions of a given problem, this engineer is also capable of proposing and implementing effective solutions. He is also qualified to produce studies on environmental impacts and to work on environmental management and certification processes (recognition of environmental quality granted by an international body). Among the main responsibilities of an Environmental Engineer are: Assessment of the environmental Canada Telegram Number Data impact generated by industrial and civil engineering projects, proposing solutions to reduce it; Ensure that works comply with environmental standards and laws; Carry out field research to assess the devastation of nature; Take measurements of air, water and soil pollution; Promote recovery projects for destroyed areas; Develop garbage, industrial waste and toxic material treatment projects. What is the Environmental Engineering course like? The Environmental Engineering course lasts an average of five years (10 semesters), and is offered as a bachelor's degree.

This degree course is characterized by multidisciplinarity, since during the degree subjects from Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry are mixed with content from Geology, Hydrology, Ecology and Topography. In the initial years of the course, subjects common to Engineering courses are covered. After that, more specific subjects begin to be taught, such as Environmental Hydraulics, Environmental Impact Assessment and Waste Treatment, for example. Furthermore, the student learns about water storage and treatment, climatology and control of gas emissions into the atmosphere, environmental law, legislation and economics, waste treatment, sanitation and urban drainage. It is worth mentioning that the student also acquires knowledge that helps them carry out environmental projects and, mainly, contribute to cleaner and more sustainable production.
